Blood Bowl Gretchen Wächter (Carl)

The second Blood Bowl model completed in December this time for my other brother’s Christmas present is Gretchen Wächter (I might have mangled the spelling on that).

Another of GWs expert resin kits and another fiddly thing to construct. A separate piece for the face!? Sheesh.

I lost my way a bit on the painting as I was struggling for time but I think it turned out okay in the end.

These recent two models bring my total for the year to 45. I’m not convinced I can hit 52 as I’d need to complete another 7 today.

Blood Bowl Jeremiah Kool (Carl)

December has been a tricky month to get anything finished in, but I did manage a couple of models for my brothers Christmas presents.

First up is the Blood Bowl Dark Elf Jeremiah Kool. This was one of what GW call an ‘expert kit’, essentially this means a multi-part resin model.

It was nine parts and ooof! Yup, it was a fiddly thing to put together. The painting was reasonably easy though, I followed the colour scheme on the packaging as my brother’s team also has a purple kit.

5 years since Carl & I started trying to put 'paint on brush'... WOW!!

However, and once again sadly for me, it seems I haven't posted anything in the last 12 months so even worse than yet another carbon copy post.

2025 started with good intentions to dive deeply into both Warhammer: The Old World and Horus Heresy, both from Games Workshop but circumstances (GW completely rewriting HH for a start!) got in the way and although I prepped and based quite a few figures it wasn't to be.

 - even the two Chaos Marauders I fished last year are just about to need new, bigger bases... thanks GW!

Carl has had another good year though, currently sitting on 43 finishes I believe and managing to complete a couple of hobby goals along the way.

My hobby interests have just been reawakened by the recent push from Boards and Swords Hobbies in Derby to start a Warmachine mkIV slow grow league in January.

I can't find my old Protectorate of Menoth warjacks from Privateer Press and Warmachine mkII many years ago, so I'm dipping my toe into the world of 3D printed resin miniatures courtesy of my Old World friend Liam who owns an Elegoo Saturn printer and the Tribes program on MyMiniFactory by Steam Forged Games who now own the Warmachine franchise.

Only time will tell if this kickstarts my hobbying again, so let's see...

EDIT: Carl reminded me that I forgot to mention that although I haven't painted anything from the Lead Mountain, I have had a bumper year shifting no longer wanted minis on eBay - in fact way more than I could ever hope to paint over several years, so not all bad I guess?

AoS Spearhead Measuring Sticks (Carl)

A bit of an oddball pair of ‘models’ here. They’re not models in the traditional sense at all but they are on the terrain sprue to be painted.

6 inch and 3 inch measuring sticks (combined to make 9) for use in Age of Sigmar Spearhead games. I took the opportunity to test paint these with a marble effect as I plan on using it on the Spearhead terrain pieces I have primed and waiting.

Overall quite happy with the way they worked out. Not sure if they count as one of two completions though. Hmmm… I’m going for counts as two. That’s 43 completions for the year!

1000 points Slaves To Darkness Army for Age of Sigmar (Carl)

The completion of my Ogroid Myrmidon (see previous post) also completes my 1000 points of Slaves to Darkness for Age of Sigmar. Mission complete!

It’s taken a big chunk of stop-starting over the last three years but it’s finished.

I completed 13 models for the Tarantulos warband from Warcry Red Harvest for this army along the way too. But as is Games Workshop’s way, a new edition of Age of Sigmar during my time painting means have been rotated out of the latest edition of the game.

I don’t mind. I’ve got an army finished.

Ogroid Myrmidon (Carl)

At long, long last… the Ogroid Myrmidon for Age of Sigmar is finally complete!

This model has taken far too long, the reason? Avoidance. I simply could not bring myself to paint the black leather straps around his body. It’s a small thing but for some reason I hit a block purely because I didn’t want to do them.

But this week I’ve managed to push through the block and complete him. It’s a great model, I love the sculpt, although my build was a bit rushed so there’s a few gaps I only noticed when painting him. But they’re quite well hidden due to the way the model components are designed to fit together.

This completion takes this years tally of completions to 41.

Zarshia Bittersoul (Carl)

Another step towards the completion of my Slaves to Darkness Age of Sigmar 1000pt force. This time my Chaos Sorcerer, Zarshia Bittersoul from the Khagra’s Ravagers Warhammer Underworlds is warband.

I really like this model, it’s got loads of character. The painting took less time than I expected with me getting it finished in about three sessions.

This completion makes it 40 for the year!!
